PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Atherton Elementary School is located in the Houston’s Fifth Ward neighborhood. It was originally built in 1957 and was re-opened for the 2013-/2014 school year with twice the size. The new school was approximately 87,000 square feet and built for 750 elementary students. A 2,000 amp Main switchboard served the school with local panels throughout the facility. Two air cooled chillers were designed to provide approximately 370 tons of available of cooling. The chillers were designed to handle 60% of the load each to add in some redundancy in case of a chiller failure. The school obtained LEED certification for its many energy saving features.
